We have now been dormant as a Society since the end of 2016 when due to a dwindling membership, fewer opportunities to work with Nomadic in a hands on capacity and increasing operating costs conspired to pause our activities until such times as we were able to reassess our options and offer something different.

At the time the Lifeboat was hired out for an upcoming exhibition on the Queen Mary in California and we hoped it would be a source of income that would allow us to do a few projects.

Unfortunately that was not the case, and it has become clear that while the interest in Nomadic is still there reimagining the Society would not be a viable option and so we have begun the procedures to close down the NPS officially. Part of that is following our own constitution and the procedures of the Charity Commission both of which require the Lifeboat and other assets to be handed over to another like minded Charitable body.

It took until 2023 to get the Lifeboat back into the hands of the NPS committee who then set about trying to find a permanent home for it here in Northern Ireland. It was decided to offer the Lifeboat to Maritime Belfast so it could be reunited with her parent ship SS Nomadic.

Happily they accepted and on Friday 8 September 2023 the Lifeboat was signed over to them.
